100% Natural Korean Vocabulary 1-2 : Drinks & Soda

Snacks and beverages

Day 2 : Drinko Drinko

Do you guys enjoy any beverages? For me, a cup of coffee is something I always need at morning. My brain is just dead until caffeine comes in. Well… I’m not sure if it’s sugar rush or caffeine though. lol. Anyway, Today Korean lesson is about beverages.

soda
음료수
[eum lyo su]

음료수 means cold beverage such as soda or juice or any drink with no alcohol (not tea or coffee or milk) but mostly it means soda. sometimes you can see ‘음료’ instead of 음료수. it’s a same meaning.
음 is a same word to 음 in 음식 (food), 수 means water

음료수는 코코팜이 진리다 Cocopalm is the truth of life for drink Try it if you can get it
juice
주스
[jyu seu]

Korean doesn’t have a word for juice so they use an English word for it. pronunciation is quite different but Koreans would understand if you say juice in English. 스 has an accent and is pronounced as 쓰.

야채 주스는 아이들을 고문하기 위해 만들어진게 확실해요. I’m very sure that vegetable juice was invented for torturing children.
coffee
커피
[keo pi]

커피 is the word shows the big difference between Korean and other many languages. Koreans pronounce p instead of f in coffee because they don’t have ‘f’.

커피는 써요 그러니까 설탕 열 스푼 coffee is bitter so sugar 10 spoons
tea
[cha]

차 doesn’t mean only black or green tea. Koreans think that tea can be made of many things such as any leaf, root, fruits. And putting some sugar in your tea can be shocking to East Asians. Especially with green tea. lol. I don’t know… it seems wrong lol… I was shocked a bit.

에 설탕을 넣는 것은 모욕이다 putting sugar in green tea is insulting
drink
마시다
[ma si da]

well… 마시다 is drink. funny thing is 마시다 also implies ‘drink alcohol’ just like many languages do. I really wonder how many alcohol lovers participated to make a language all over the world.

(저는) 차 마시고 있어요 (I) am drinking tea
