Another Meaning

Maybe you already know that ‘it’s not funny’ is 안웃겨요 in Korean. Although Korean language has a word for ‘funny’, 재미없어요 can be also used as ‘it’s not funny’.

재미없어요
It’s not funny

How To Use

A: 여기 재미없어요
It’s boring here
B: 그럼 잠깐 나가서 걸을까요?
Then do you want to go out and walk a bit?

A: 아 재미없어요
Ahh it’s boring
B: 진짜요?
Really?

A: 이 영화 너무 지루하네요
This movie is too boring
B: 그냥 나갈까요?
Do you want to just go out?

It’s Dull / Tedious in Korean

You can also say ‘지루하다’ for ‘it’s boring’ in Korean. It’s a bit more formal than boring and less formal than ‘tedious’. You can say ‘재미있긴 한데 지루하다 (it’s fun but a bit boring)’ lol. It doesn’t make any sense in English right?

It totally makes sense in Korean because 지루하다 isn’t same to boring. 지루하다 describes the boredom by dragging something out. Think about Some movie that drags out the story so much at some scenes but still quite fun. That’s where you can use ‘재미있는데 지루하다’.

재미없다 vs 지루하다

지루하다 sounds more similar to tedious in English. Yes, it sounds a bit formal and unnecessary fancy to use in a very casual conversation. 재미없다 is much more common and similar to ‘it’s boring’.
