Basic form : -고 싶다
Informal non-honorific(반말) form : -고 싶어
Negative form : 안 stem+고 싶어요
-고 싶다 is ‘I want to’ in Korean. However, it’s not 100% same to ‘I want to’. -고 싶어요 conjugation describes wishes or wants of the speaker in the sentence. So, you can use -고 싶어요 to say ‘I wish to do something’ or ‘I hope to do something’ also.
Maybe you remember -고 싶어요 from the previous lesson I want something in Korean. Unlike I want to in English, -고 싶어요 work as a conjugation so you can’t use it alone. You must combine a verb to -고 싶어요 phrase.
Rules For Perfect Uses
You can use -고 싶어요 conjugation only when the sentence has a 1st person pronoun subject which is ‘I’. When it’s a question. When the sentence is a question, then it’s natural only with 2nd person pronoun ‘you’.

I wish to be good at Korean
B: 나는 영어 잘하고 싶어요
I wish to be good at English

In Korean language, there is no natural casual phrase to say ‘I want something’. you must be very specific about the action. What you want to buy, what you want to eat or what you want to see.
